Development is a frequent occurrence in modern society: people move, produce, and consume. This can be positive, but is often superficial and detrimental to the natural world. Forests and meadows are frequently replaced with luxury apartments and strip malls.
Project #17-044 consists of images taken at a zoning pending site in North Carolina. The proposed project consists of a 327,380 square foot development. This includes 215 dwelling units, office and retail space, and a 3-level parking garage on what is currently wooded land.
The images presented consist of markers intended for the initial phases of logging and development, as well as the environment they mark. Records of this environment are sanded down and paired with a projection of this reductive process. Loss is signified through the removal of the image, what is left are remnants of what previously existed.
