Pedestal is a series of photographs that contain a built and vacant pedestal. The pedestal is moved through a variety of locations and becomes damaged over time. Although already critiqued in the art world, it is an object that traditionally elevates and adds value. It continues to have a place in commercial and residential use as well as in figurative speech “putting it on a pedestal”. This series is an investigation into the removal and redirection of value through context. It presents the viewer with the ridiculous nature of an object of value removed from its intended settings. The vacancy and location of the pedestal also pose a question about where and what we assign value to.
